资源简介:
Here, we describe the draft genome sequence of an antibiotic-resistant Escherichia coli with extended-spectrum beta-lactamase spectrum isolated from feces of a critically ill, antibiotic-treated patient. Escherichia coli is a common cause of a broad spectrum of infections, from non-complicated urinary tract infection, to severe sepsis and septic shock, that are associated to high impact outcomes, such as ICU admission and mortality [1]. High dosages of antibiotics are used to treat critically ill patients in intensive care units. This therapy affects not just harmful bacteria but also the beneficial members of gut microbiome. An imbalance in the gut flora results from this. However, certain bacteria have resistance and survival mechanisms that allow them to withstand such a treatment. Bacterial survival can aided by both antibiotic resistance mechanisms and biofilm formation. Here, we looked at the characteristics of the isolate MSICU-013-Mero-049 from a critically ill patient receiving initially meropenem treatment. MSICU-013-Mero-049 was identified using biochemical and in silico analyses as E. coli. Additionally in vitro testing and in silico testing of antibiotic resistance genes was performed characterizing it as ESBL strain. Finally the genome was mapped against a collection of genes known to be biofilm-associated [2]. Comprehending the fundamental process of pathogen survival could aid in clarifying possible therapeutic approaches.
