The purpose of our study was to analyze the ordering of the rating categories of the items in the Early Childhood Environment Rating Scale–Revised. We analyzed data from eight studies (with 14 waves of data collection across the studies). To determine whether the rating categories followed an ordinal progression, we used the nominal response model, generalized partial credit model, partial credit model, within-category averages of total scores, and point-biserial correlations.
