Letters received from departments under the control of the Department of Attorney General and Justice, and the general public. Included are letters from: Clerks of Petty Sessions about the administration of Petty Session business and enclosing official returns of business in the various offices; magistrates requesting opinions on various points of law and, replying to press criticism and complaints from members of the public and the police; and from Judges of the Supreme Court including reports on persons sentenced to death, for the consideration of the executive in commuting such sentences. This correspondence contains material relating to the proposed establishment of Courts of Petty Sessions, District Courts, and Quarter Sessions in various places and various reports and returns connected with these proposals; material relating to the building, repair, and alteration to court-house premises throughout the State; correspondence and papers relating to the appointment and resignation of judges; copies of Public Service Board inquiries into the conduct etc. of officers of the Department; reports and petitions regarding the issue of publicans' licences; appointments of members of Boards under the Industrial Disputes Act 1908; applications to change the name of companies under s.325 of the Companies Act, 1898; and, reports and papers concerning the release of prisoners on licence.
