VPRS 15706 Purchases of Land, Closer and Discharged Soldier Settlement Acts

This series gives details of the purchase of land for the use of closer and discharged soldier settlement from private vendors. Details given are the date of purchase, the name of the vendor, the estate or applicant (with an annotation if the land was purchased under the provisions of Sections 6 and 11 of the Act) and whether the applicant was a discharged soldier. These provisions continued in the Closer Settlement Act 1904 and subsequent acts and were reinforced and reiterated in the Discharged Soldiers Settlement Acts from 1917. The Acts specified the conditions under which the Closer Settlement Board (previously known as the Lands Purchase and Management Board) might select land and pay for it as well as the conditions required for evaluating the suitability of the land for that purpose, arriving at a valuation of the land and the procedures for any subsequent purchase.
