本数据集为通过主成分分析（principal components analysis）计算得到的丰度指数时间序列，该指数基于综合海洋观测系统（Integrated Marine Observing System，简称IMOS）国家参考站各站点采集的钙质浮游生物数据生成，钙质浮游生物涵盖棘皮动物幼虫、双壳类幼虫、驼螺科腹足类（Cavoliniid gastropods）及其他带壳腹足类。该丰度指数的取值含义为：1表示高于长期均值，0表示无变化，-1表示低于长期均值。

本数据集所用IMOS与澳大利亚联邦科学与工业研究组织（Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation，简称CSIRO）的数据，用于制作《2016年环境状况报告——海洋篇章》中的MAR10号图表。详见：
