Research dataset for creating impact factors for the biodiversity and climate impact assessment method BIOVALENT

This repository provides a research dataset for creating impact factors for the biodiversity and climate impact assessment method BIOVALENT (EL Geneidy et al., 2026). BIOVALENT method applies established life cycle assessment (LCA) methods and can be used to assess biodiversity and carbon footprint of human activities, such as consumption. We used LC-IMPACT version 1.3 and ecoinvent version 3.10.1. The data is not at the moment peer-reviewed. Units The code included in this repository generates impact factors expressed as potentially disappeared fraction of species (PDF) per biodiversity loss driver in terrestrial, marine and freshwater ecosystems per unit of activity. It also produces biodiversity footprint measured as Biodiversity equivalent (BDe) per activity. BDe represents the spatially explicit potential global loss of species across terrestrial, freshwater and marine ecosystems. Its values range from 0 to 1, where 0 indicates no risk of extinction and 1 indicates that the share of global species in the risk of extinction is 100 %. Climate impact of activities is measured in carbon dioxide equivalent.
