Fibrosis is a disease condition with excessive deposition of extracellular matrix (ECM) components such as collagens in tissues and has been reported to be associated with approximately 45% of deaths in developed countries. The cells that produce excessive ECM in fibrotic tissue are called myofibroblasts which do not exist in normal tissue but appear only in fibrotic tissue.
