Cyclic Testing of Heat treated Beam Section 1 (HBS 1)

Welded Unreinforced Flange - Welded Web (WUF-W) beam-column moment resisting connection modified by heat treating flanges of the beam in specified locations. Heat treatment of the beam flanges reduces the strength of steel and upon cyclic loading, induces plastic hinge formation in these areas, thus promoting ductile behavior through the plastic hinging mechanism. This is the first of 3 identical WUF-W connections modified by heat treatment which were tested as a part of this research study. Specimens were subjected to a cyclic load history according to 2005 AISC Seismic Provisions appendix S Beam Member- W30 x 148 Column Member- W14 x 257
