Combined Sr-O isotope dataset from (post-)medieval Oldenzaal, the Netherlands (800–1600 BCE)

This dataset comprises strontium and oxygen isotope analyses of 198 (post-)medieval human individuals interred in the town of Oldenzaal, the Netherlands, spanning approximately 800–1600 BCE. The data were generated to assess residential mobility in relation to the town’s historical infrastructural connectivity, as presented in Kootker et al. (2019). Although Oldenzaal was well-connected regionally during the Middle Ages and early modern period, the isotopic evidence reveals surprisingly low geographical variability among its inhabitants, prompting considerations of dataset biases, methodological limitations, and broader socio-cultural factors beyond isotopic detection.
