The Lakshadweep Archipelago is situated in the Laccadive Sea of the Indian Ocean, serving as the southernmost archipelago of India. It is separated from the Maldives by the Eight Degree Channel, and lies 210 km east of the west coast of the Indian mainland. Its geographical coordinates range from 8°15′56″N to 11°42′20″N, and 72°5′13″E to 73°42′9″E. The Lakshadweep Archipelago is composed of three major island groups and a series of atolls. The three island groups are the Aminidivi Islands, Laccadive Islands, and Minicoy Islands. Specifically, the Aminidivi Islands include Amini Atoll, Kadmat Atoll, Kiltan Island, Chetlat Island, Bitra Island, Perumal Par, Byramgore Reef, and Cherbaniani Reef. The Laccadive Islands consist of Bangaram Atoll, Agatti Atoll, Pitti Island, Kavaratti Atoll, Andrott Island, Kalpeni Atoll, and Suheli Par Atoll. The Minicoy Islands only contain one atoll, Maliku Atoll. The total area of the Lakshadweep Archipelago is 31.10 km², with a total coastline length of 156.06 km.
