Becoming a Social Worker

Survey data. This inquiry is focused on three main aspects: the decision-making process for a BA in Social Work, entry conditions, and student retention factors. A descriptive and correlational study was conducted in a public university in the northeastern Colombian region. A structured questionnaire was used, with a five-year gap (2017 n=106 and 2022 n=108), in two random samples of students of the Bachelor of Social Work (BSW). Results reveal that even though it is hard to get a spot in the university, Social Work is not an attractive program for students, initially. Nevertheless, across the training process, the early weak resolution turns into a highly valued conviction and Social Work becomes a relevant career and professional decision for students’ individual and social development.本数据集为调研数据。本次调研聚焦三大核心维度：社会工作学士学位（Bachelor of Social Work，BSW）的报考决策过程、入学要求，以及学生留存因素。本研究在哥伦比亚东北部地区的一所公立大学开展，属于描述性与相关性研究。研究采用结构化问卷，针对社会工作学士学位专业的两届随机抽样学生群体开展调研，两次调研间隔五年（2017年样本量n=106，2022年样本量n=108）。研究结果显示：尽管考入该校难度较高，但社会工作专业最初并未对学生构成较强的报考吸引力。然而在培养周期中，学生最初的报考意愿薄弱会逐步转化为高度认同的信念，社会工作专业也逐渐成为契合学生个人与社会发展需求的重要职业选择。
