The social organization of Oecophylla smaragdina (Hymenoptera: Formicidae) colonies and their functional activity

The dataset and analyses conducted provided valuable findings on the existence of five workers distinct sub-caste in the Asian weaver ant colonies sampled in oil palm plantations and Calamansi lemon trees in Malaysia.
This does contrast with the classical bimodal worker distribution as major and minor only. We have polymorphic workers presenting a definite multimodal distribution. The major big worker MBW, the major intermediate worker, MIW, the intermediate worker 3 IM3, the intermediate worker 2 IM2 and minor worker MW.
