In Mexico, Gyromitra and Paragyromitra species are of great cultural importance and are traditionally consumed by indigenous and mestizo communities. Besides, Paragyromitra endophytica sp. nov. primarily develops in Abies and conifer forests, it is a common endophyte of lichens, moss and vascular plants, and is distributed from central Mexico to southern United States.Paragyromitra endophytica is the sister species of P. infula forming a highly supported clade, and is distinguished from it by shorter asci, and ascospores slightly wider and not fusoidal.
