Post Junior, (commanding officer); Sydna Jean Elrod, 7 years (stricken with Polio, and confined to a wheelchair); Mrs. Sydna Elrod (mother of victim); William F. Elrod, junior, 5 years (brother of victim); Radarman Second Class Merlyn D. Hatcher, 21 years; Gunner's Mate First Class William F. Elrod (dad of victim).; Supplementary material reads: "Chernus -- harbor. Attack transports arrival -- Long Beach. One negative shows attack transport USS Cacalier coming to dock at Berth B-12, Long Beach, relatives of men aboard in forground. Two negatives show Captain William S. Post Junior, commanding officer of USS Cavalier, handing painting of ship to seven-year-old Sydna Jean Elrod, stricken with polio and confined to wheelchair, on dock. Crew also collected $2171 in cash for cirl who was named Miss Cavalier by crewmen of the attack transport. Three negatives show Radarman 2/C Merlyn D. Matcher, 21, handing check to Sydna Jean Elrod. On right is girl's father, Gunner's Mate First Class William F. Elrod, of 3021 McNab Street, Long Beach, helping Sydna Elrod, and boy is girl's brother is William F. Elrod junior, 5".
