Open Data for Melodic Legacies: Maintaining the Sustainability of Traditional Music through Inclusive Communication

This study highlights the role of strategic communication in preserving and reviving traditional Indonesian music amid the challenges of globalization and digitalization, particularly among the younger generation. The study analyzes the impact of top-down (institutional) and bottom-up (community and digital) communication strategies on young people's engagement with traditional music. Qualitative methods were employed through content analysis, expert interviews, and focused group discussions. The findings emphasize the importance of narratives, storytelling on social media, educational partnerships, and cross-cultural music integration as effective approaches. The study also addresses issues of authenticity, cultural commodification, and the tension between preservation and innovation. In conclusion, the sustainability of traditional music is not merely about preserving the past but also about conveying its meaning in ways that are relevant to current and future generations.
