The increase in global temperatures threaten the persistence of viviparous lizard populations in habitats at high elevations. These isolated populations of mountain “mainland islands” exhibit wider temperature oscillations (Janzen’s hypothesis) that exceed thermal tolerance compared to populations at lower. We ask if broader thermal tolerance is beneficial for a species to cope with rising temperatures as predicted in future climate scenarios. We analyzed field and laboratory data under to acclimatization experiment.
