Ca10(PO4)6S crystallizes in the trigonal P3 space group. The structure is three-dimensional. there are six inequivalent Ca2+ sites. In the first Ca2+ site, Ca2+ is bonded in a 6-coordinate geometry to six O2- atoms. There are three shorter (2.36 Å) and three longer (2.38 Å) Ca–O bond lengths. In the second Ca2+ site, Ca2+ is bonded in a 9-coordinate geometry to nine O2- atoms. There are a spread of Ca–O bond distances ranging from 2.49–2.59 Å. In the third Ca2+ site, Ca2+ is bonded in a 6-coordinate geometry to six O2- atoms. There are three shorter (2.36 Å) and three longer (2.37 Å) Ca–O bond lengths. In the fourth Ca2+ site, Ca2+ is bonded in a 9-coordinate geometry to nine O2- atoms. There are a spread of Ca–O bond distances ranging from 2.44–2.60 Å. In the fifth Ca2+ site, Ca2+ is bonded in a 7-coordinate geometry to one S2- and six O2- atoms. The Ca–S bond length is 2.93 Å. There are a spread of Ca–O bond distances ranging from 2.34–3.01 Å. In the sixth Ca2+ site, Ca2+ is bonded in a 7-coordinate geometry to one S2- and six O2- atoms. The Ca–S bond length is 2.97 Å. There are a spread of Ca–O bond distances ranging from 2.33–2.90 Å. There are two inequivalent P5+ sites. In the first P5+ site, P5+ is bonded in a tetrahedral geometry to four O2- atoms. There are a spread of P–O bond distances ranging from 1.55–1.57 Å. In the second P5+ site, P5+ is bonded in a tetrahedral geometry to four O2- atoms. There are a spread of P–O bond distances ranging from 1.55–1.57 Å. S2- is bonded in a distorted octahedral geometry to six Ca2+ atoms. There are eight inequivalent O2- sites. In the first O2- site, O2- is bonded in a 4-coordinate geometry to three Ca2+ and one P5+ atom. In the second O2- site, O2- is bonded in a 1-coordinate geometry to three Ca2+ and one P5+ atom. In the third O2- site, O2- is bonded in a 1-coordinate geometry to three Ca2+ and one P5+ atom. In the fourth O2- site, O2- is bonded in a 1-coordinate geometry to two Ca2+ and one P5+ atom. In the fifth O2- site, O2- is bonded in a 1-coordinate geometry to three Ca2+ and one P5+ atom. In the sixth O2- site, O2- is bonded in a 1-coordinate geometry to two Ca2+ and one P5+ atom. In the seventh O2- site, O2- is bonded in a 1-coordinate geometry to three Ca2+ and one P5+ atom. In the eighth O2- site, O2- is bonded in a 4-coordinate geometry to three Ca2+ and one P5+ atom.
