AWI-Herbarium Marine Macroalgae

The AWI Herbarium Marine Macroalgae (BRM) is a reference herbarium for seaweeds of the German North Sea coast. It is located on the island of Helgoland and is accessible to interested scientists. It hosts the collection of marine macroalgae from the German North Sea with their original taxon names, established by P. Kuckuck in 1892 and continued by P. Kornmann and H.-P. Sahling after the 2nd World War. The database contains approx. 8600 entries from ≥ 240 taxa and covers most specimens conserved by P. Kuckuck, P. Kornmann and H.-P. Sahling and others between 1861 and 2006. For many species a representative image is available (444 images). In total, the herbarium contains 4 types and 2 isotypes. More recent collections are not yet digitized.
