Streptomyces in polar natural environment, with unique survival mechanisms and biosynthetic pathways capable of producing a variety of bioactive secondary metabolites, can serve as a valuable source of new antimicrobials. the strain 21So2-11 was isolated from topsoil collected in the coastal region of the Chinese Great Wall Station on the Fildes Peninsula, King George Island, Antarctica. Through investigating its secondary metabolite BGCs, compare it with those of BGCs of other Streptomyces species isolated from polar environments available in the public nucleotide databases, and finally evaluate its potential for producing novel bioactive compounds.
