‘They've [practitioners] got to understand that racism impacts Aboriginal people on a daily basis, inside and outside their home’

The aim of this research was to examine Aboriginal health consumers’ experiences with medical practitioners. Additionally, it sought to understand how Aboriginal health consumers’ experiences have been represented in Australian pre-vocational medical education curriculum policies. To address this aim, this thesis presents three studies. The first study applied Yarning method to understand Aboriginal people’s experiences and perspectives with medical practitioners, in relation to five capabilities outlined in the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Curriculum Framework. The second study analysed Yarning data to better understand relationally underpinning Yarns. The final study analysed how racism and anti-racism are framed in medical education policies.
