Biologging data collection of Rhincodon typus with satellite tags in the Galapagos Marine Reserve by the Galapagos Whale Shark Project - Sky the whale shark

Sky is a whale shark (Rhincodon typus) satellite-tagged by the Galápagos Whale Shark Project® in the Galápagos Marine Reserve. Between August 2021 and February 2022, Sky was tracked for nearly six months on a remarkable open-ocean journey — departing the waters around the Galápagos archipelago and venturing thousands of kilometers across the eastern Pacific, reaching latitudes as far south as 17°S before the signal was last recorded. This biologging dataset, collected during field expeditions in one of the world's most biodiverse marine protected areas, offers a rare glimpse into the long-distance movement ecology of the largest fish on Earth.
