Since magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanner with ultra-high field (UHF) has better performance, scientists have been working to develop high-performance devices with stronger fields to improve their diagnostic potential. However, whether MRI scanner with UHF poses a risk to the safety of the organism needs further evaluation. In this study, we evaluated the effects of 11.4 Tesla (T) UHF on embryonic development using zebrafish model. Multiple approaches including morphological parameters, physiological behaviors, and transcriptome analyses at molecular levels were utilized during laboratory-controlled exposure from 6 hpf to 24 hpf, and continuous measures for 5 days. No significant effects were observed in embryo mortality, hatching rate, and body length, Left-Right patterning, locomotor behavior etc. RNA-Seq data analyzed using pairwise comparisons, and revealed that up-regulated TNF inflammatory factors and activated TNF signaling pathways, which was also validated using qPCR. Our findings indicate that UHF exposure under 11.4 T has no effects on the development of zebrafish embryos but has certain effects on the immune response, which needs further investigations.
