The PEST strain of Anopheles gambiae originally selected for genome sequencing is a hybrid of two incipient subspecies referred to as molecular forms M and S. To aid in improving the A. gambiae genome assembly, the Washington University Genome Sequencing Center is sequencing the M form. Traces are available from the Trace Archive, and can be searched using BLAST. The traces were assembled by the J. Craig Venter Institute into the Whole Genome Shotgun project.
