Instrument for the paper “Language, Identity, and War: Investigating Multilingualism in Western Ukraine” and its quantitative results

These data were collected immediately prior to the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine in autumn 2022. Given the pre-existing context of Russia’s seven-year history of military aggression in Ukraine by that time it would now (and especially after the war) obviously show a significant difference, which is a promising target for further comparative research. The data include the questionnaire on multilingualism of Ukrainian student youth and its quantitative results. Structurally, the questionnaire is divided into blocks of questions aimed at, first of all, factual collection of information about the respondents (age, territorial affiliation – a specific region of Ukraine, rural or urban area, ethnicity, and languages spoken), situations of code-switching and language mixing, evaluation positions (defining the prestige of languages in certain areas).本数据集采集于2022年秋季俄罗斯全面入侵乌克兰前夕。考虑到截至彼时俄罗斯已对乌克兰实施七年军事侵略的既有背景，本数据集与当前（尤其是战后）的实际情况显然存在显著差异，这为后续比较研究提供了极具潜力的研究方向。本数据集包含乌克兰青年学生多语言使用情况调查问卷及其量化统计结果。从结构上看，该调查问卷分为多个问题模块，首要目标是采集受访者的基础信息，包括年龄、所属地域（乌克兰具体行政区）、城乡属性、族裔背景及使用语言情况，同时涵盖语码转换（code-switching）与语言混杂场景、语言评价立场（即界定特定场景下的语言声望）等内容。
