NRS-5255 | Reports by the Immigration Agent on condition of immigrants and ships on their arrival

The volumes are indexed alphabetically by name of ship and contain reports of the Immigration Agent on the arrival of ships and the disposal of immigrants. Copies of Annual Reports of Immigration, both printed and manuscript, are included, along with copies of evidence of immigrants regarding irregularities on board. The reports provide statistics about the ship, passengers and the voyage, including tonnage, numbers embarked, disembarked and died, and dates of arrival and departure. The report determined whether or not the master, the surgeon and the importer (if there was one) received their gratuities. Sometimes the report caused a special meeting of the Immigration Board to be held to investigate charges of improper conduct, etc. 1837-40, 1855-56, 1862-95 (4/4821, 4/4697, 4/4623-28; microfilm copy SR Reels 2852-2854). 8 vols.
