Weather Source: Dynamic Weather Alerting Service (DWAS)

Powered by Snowflake, Weather Source’s Dynamic Weather Alerting Service (DWAS) is a highly configurable web-based application that ensures your business is never surprised by a weather event at your location(s) of interest. DWAS empowers businesses to plot their locations of interest and set weather triggers that generate alerts when weather conditions or forecasted conditions trigger an alert at a location of interest. Alerts and notifications are available for any location around the globe and include the exact time an alert is issued, becomes active and will expire. Alerts can be sent to subscribers via text or email, and can also be sent as pub/sub messages to automated systems.

User-defined alerts allow DWAS users the ability to set alerting thresholds and rules for all supported weather parameters (i.e., alert me when rain exceeds 1 mm per hour or wind speed is above 20mph, etc.) including weather events that normally would not rise to the level of a government warning, watch or advisory (e.g., National Weather Service (NWS) alerts are generally not issued for wind speeds under 30 mph but hot-air balloon companies definitely need to be alerted when wind speed is greater than 8 mph). Through DWAS your business will receive alerts when the forecasted or actual weather exceeds the predetermined thresholds set for the selected weather parameter(s).

The steps necessary to connect DWAS to Snowflake are as follow:
- Create a new DWAS account.
- Click 'Request' to initiate a Snowflake connection for this DWAS account.
- Create a public and private key pair.
- Receive and run a script to provision the appropriate roles, users, and tables
within Snowflake.
- Provide the necessary credentials to the DWAS team to finalize the connection
between Snowflake and DWAS.
- You can now begin to manipulate your data from either the DWAS UI or the
Snowflake UI.
