Oudekraal long term monitoring project

This study investigated the marine microbes present at Oudekraal, an inshore location that is prone to upwelling events, near a waste outfall, and is a popular recreational spot for local communities. We investigated the temporal changes of the microbial community composition over a two-year period, with samples taken bi-weekly during summer, autumn and spring. Bacterioplankton were characterized using the full 16S rRNA gene, sequenced on the Oxford Nanopore Technologies MinION.
