The study was designed to investigate the acute effects of B2AR receptor activation on global gene expression changes in bone marrow-derived macrophages. Fenoterol was chosen as B2AR agonist, but our earlier experiments using B2AR antagonists and B2AR knockout cells indicated that norepinephrine signal predominantly via B2AR in macrophages. Overall design: Bone marrow cells were isolated from 4 mice and differentiated to macrophages in vitro. Cells from each mouse were either untreated (control) or treated with beta2-adrenergic receptor agonist fenoterol for 1 or 4 hours, in the presence of BMDM culture medium. Cells were then lysed and total RNA was isolated for sequencing.
