Alaska Landslide Inventory Web Layer
In response to catastrophic landslides in Alaska, the State of Alaska established the Landslide Hazards Program in the Division of Geological & Geophysical Surveys (DGGS) to assess and communicate the state’s landslide risks. A key initiative of the program is the development of a statewide landslide inventory, which will be integrated into the U.S. Landslide Inventory (Mirus and others, 2020). This Alaska Landslide Inventory (ALI) database contains previously mapped landslides from published geological reports and includes newly identified, unpublished landslides reported in the news or identified through aerial imagery interpretation. Landslides are first classified by movement type (e.g., slides, falls, flows, spreads, thaw-related) and include other attributes such as kinematic features, event date, and confidence intervals. This working database serves as a dynamic resource for our partners and the public. Future goals include addressing missing information, improving categorization of the current entries, and identifying additional landslides.
