资源简介:
The sequencing of CG3 may aid in understanding its contribution to nutrient and carbon cycling. Organisms isolated from the Cotton Glacier are excellent models to study carbon cycling due to the simplified polar environment. It is free of humic DOM and higher trophic levels that contribute to the complexity of other terrestrial or marine systems. This environment allows us to study carbon cycling at a more fundamental level, which is important for developing models that may in turn be applied to more complex systems. For example, sequence information from psychrophilic microorganisms isolated from the Cotton Glacier could be used to compare to deep-sea psychrophiles, which also play an important role in carbon cycling by aiding in the sinking of fixed carbon to the deep sea. These marine organisms deal with more complex and recalcitrant debris, but the basic process by which enzymes are secreted may be similar.
