Fluid-structure interaction (FSI) phenomena involve coupling between the laws of fluid and structural mechanics. Many of these phenomena are encountered in civil infrastructure, including the interaction of coastal structures with high wind and waves generated by hurricanes. ALE-SSM is a multi-physics computational framework that integrates skeleton-based structural models into FSI domains while preserving the physical geometry of the structure. A unique capability of ALE-SSM is that it enables fluid and structural domains to be discretized independently to meet domain-specific resolution needs.
