Map of Dominant Soils of Romania at 1:700k scale - Dataset

The Map of Dominant Soils of Romania at 1:700k scale (MDSR-700k) is a new - more accurate and updated - dominant soil type map of Romania at a small-medium scale.
Its legend comprises 42 soil mapping units (SMUs), each defined by a major dominant soil (MDS) or an association of such soils. A total of 49 different MDSs (soil/nonsoil types) are used for defining these 42 SMUs.
In the map’s legend the SMUs are defined both in terms of the current Romanian system of soil taxonomy (SRTS+) and in terms of the current WRB international soil classification system (2022 version).
The MDS weightings as area in the MDSR-700k’s SMUs are about 40 – 90%. The MDSR-700k (GIS soil layer) has 5775 polygons (delineations), the average size of the delineations being of 3937 ha. A delineation has at least 500 ha.
Each SMU is characterised on the map by a unique colour and by a SRTS+ mnemonic symbol.
The MDSR-700k map comprises, besides the soil layer, other four layers: the main rivers, the main lakes, the larger towns, and the county boundaries.
The dataset comprises the .jpg file prepared to be plotted at the 1:700,000 scale on A0 sheet.
