We demonstrate rationale for the high throughput analysis and transcriptomic response of genes within the moss, Physcometrium patens, in coculture with the Mortierella fungi Linnemannia elonga and Benniella eriona, containing and lacking endobacterial symbionts. The nature of this plant-fungal interaction represents a facet of untested symbiosis and may give insight into earths history as to how foundational traits in the first terrestrial plants led to the global terraforming observed today.
