资源简介:
This time period in Germantown takes place during Philadelphia's golden age as a political and industrial center, of which the neighborhood played a significant role. Only recently incorporated into the city in 1854, the neighborhood had long stood independently as a peripheral mill town whose garment and paper industries served as the primary employers of the area. Dammed streams and ponds northwest of the neighborhood provided both a productive and recreational resource. By the end of the 19th century, new energy sources render the dams obsolete and new houses pave over these spaces to accommodate the influx of newcomers attracted to industrial jobs.
