The synthesis of synthetically useful α-CF2-glycosides by radical addition of ethyl bromodifluoroacetate onto 2-benzyloxyglycals is described. The methodology provides an access to α-O-glycoside mimics and, potentially, to valuable α-O-glycoconjugate analogues.
