This article intents to study the SH wave propagation in nano-structure solid composite having piezoelectric plate laying over elastic substrate. The piezoelectric layer is superimposed with viscous liquid. The constitutive equations involve the higher-order stress tensor that gives rise to micro-inertia effect. Dispersion and attenuation curve have been plotted to unravel the peculiarities of various parameters <i>viz.</i>, thickness of piezoelectric plate at nanoscale level, dimensionless heterogeneity of elastic half-space, gradient coefficient and micro-inertia component of both the piezoelectric and elastic medium, and viscosity coefficient of liquid layer. Also, the impact of plate thickness on the electromechanical coupling parameter is depicted. To highlight the differences between the dispersion relations of open and short circuit cases, curves have been plotted. Remarkable impact of these parameters has been observed and discussed extensively by using numerical example. This study finds its application in analyzing and designing of nanoscaled SAW devices most suitable for liquid sensing.
