Comparative plastome analysis of 15 olive (Olea europaea L.) genotypes from Jordan

This study presents a comparative analysis of plastid genomes from 15 distinct olive (Olea europaea L.) genotypes collected in Jordan. The main objective was to employ plastid DNA as a "superbarcode" to explore genetic diversity, identify sequence variations, and detect hypervariable loci within these samples. Comprehensive plastome sequencing enabled the characterization of gene content, structural organization, and sequence divergence across the olive genotypes. This approach revealed key genetic markers and highly variable regions that hold potential for olive genotyping and may inform conservation strategies, cultivar identification, and breeding programs relevant to Jordan and the broader Mediterranean region.
