The journey to Bogata took him up the Magdalena River by boat and, on this flooded stretch, by balsa-wood raft. The caption on the back of the photograph reads, "Flooded houses on the banks of the Magdalena River below Girardot, Colombia. Taken from the raft. Apr. 29, 1925."
