Soil hazard – potential sensitivity to compaction under arable farming (October – April)

Density sensitivity of the subsoil under typical conditions of arable farming in winter, i.e. the long-term average (1975-2005) for the period October to April. The classification ranges from very low to very high compression sensitivity. Soil compaction has long been a problem of soil protection, which is exacerbated by the use of increasingly heavier machines, especially in agriculture and the construction industry. As an instrument of preventive soil protection, these maps can, for example, answer the question whether harvest transport, which was relatively risk-free in July/August, already poses a high risk of soil damage compaction in October. In order to address as many questions as possible with different spatial relation, maps are available in six different scale levels: 1: 2,000 for concrete land management or construction on site or for high-resolution planning 1: 10.000 for a plot-sharp planning 1: 25.000 for municipal level planning 1: 100.000 for planning in larger regions 1: 250.000 for nationally differentiated planning: 1000.000 for nationwide planning Further series of maps for potential compaction sensitivity exist for the period October-April as well as for grassland use.
