A Hierarchically Classified Dataset on Events Held at Public Museums Affiliated with the Ministry of Culture and Tourism in Turkey (2018-2026)

This dataset contains 2,327 announcements of events held at public museums affiliated with the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Türkiye, published on the website of the General Directorate of Cultural Assets and Museums (GDCAM) between January 2018 and 2 July 2026. The unstructured web announcements were converted into a relational dataset. Each record is classified by MainType (9 categories), SubType (78) and DetailType (144), and assigned one or more of 29 themes. Each record is linked to its city, museum, dates, source page (SourceUrl) and archived copy (ArchiveUrl). Files: Events.csv (main table, 17 variables); EventTheme.csv (event–theme links, 5,601 rows); reference tables Theme.csv, MainTypes.csv, SubTypes.csv, DetailTypes.csv and Cities.csv; Coding_Manual.pdf (coding rules and full category lists); ReadMe.txt; License.txt; Citation.txt. All CSV files are UTF-8 encoded. Each SubType and DetailType belongs to exactly one MainType. Themes are independent of the type hierarchy, and a record can have several themes. Administrative notices form a separate MainType (Announcement, n = 256) and can be excluded, leaving 2,071 event records. Version history: v5 (2026-11-04): theme assignment added for one record (RecordID 2155) that had none; all 2,327 records now have at least one theme. v4 (2026-10-28): coding manual added; 58 records whose SubType or DetailType belonged to a different MainType were corrected. The concept DOI 10.5281/zenodo.22097521 always resolves to the latest version. Reuse potential:This dataset supports research in cultural policy, museology, information management, and the digital humanities, including analyses of institutional programming priorities, thematic and content trends, spatial/regional distribution, and text/content mining, among others.
