Dataset supporting the analysis of rocking response for FEMA P695 ground motion records

This dataset contains numerical results supporting the methodology presented in the associated journal article. The data are based on the 100 earthquake ground motion records included in the FEMA P695 report (Quantification of Building Seismic Performance Factors, U.S. Department of Homeland Security, FEMA, 2009).For each ground motion record, the overturning response of a slender rocking element with a slenderness ratio of $H/B = 12$ was evaluated using nonlinear time-history analysis. The resulting rocking response curves and the associated rocking parameters are provided. ContentsThe dataset includes: Image files (.png) illustrating the overturning response of the rocking block for each individual ground-motion record, together with the fitted rocking parameters ($t_\mathrm{I}$ and $t_\mathrm{M}$). Tabulated data files containing: metadata of the ground-motion records, rocking parameters ($t_\mathrm{I}$ and $t_\mathrm{M}$) obtained from the block response, corresponding rocking parameters computed directly from signal-based analysis of the same records. Overturning acceleration spectrum (OAS) curves provided in both .mat and .csv formats. In the .csv files, the first column contains the frequency parameter $p$, while the second column gives the corresponding normalized acceleration $a_p/a_{p,\min}$ defining the overturning limit. Intended useThe dataset is intended to support the proposed methodology for the characterization of rocking effects induced by earthquake excitations.
