National Assessment of Oil and Gas Project Bighorn Basin (5034) Quarter-Mile Cells

Cell maps for each oil and gas assessment unit were created by the USGS to illustrate the degree of exploration, type of production, and distribution of production in an assessment unit or province. Each cell represents a quarter-mile square of the land surface, and the cells were then coded to indicate whether the wells included within the cell are predominantly oil-producing, gas-producing, are both oil- and gas-producing, or are dry or the type of production is unknown. The well information was initially retrieved from the IHS Energy Group, PI/Dwights PLUS Well Data on CD-ROM, which is a proprietary, commercial database containing information for most oil and gas wells in the U.S. Cells were developed as a graphic solution to overcome the problem of displaying proprietary PI/Dwights PLUS Well Data. No proprietary data are displayed or included in the cell maps. The data from PI/Dwights PLUS Well Data were current as of 2004 when the cell maps were created in 2007.美国地质调查局（USGS）针对各油气评价单元制作了栅格地图，用以展示对应评价单元或油气省内的勘探程度、生产类型及生产分布格局。每个栅格对应地表上四分之一英里见方的区域，随后通过编码标识该栅格内的油井类型：主要产油、主要产气、油气兼产，或是干井，亦或生产类型未知。油井数据最初源自IHS能源集团的光盘版《PI/Dwights PLUS 井数据》（PI/Dwights PLUS Well Data），该数据库为专属商业数据库，收录了美国绝大多数油气井的相关信息。制作栅格地图旨在以可视化方案解决专属《PI/Dwights PLUS 井数据》的展示难题，且栅格地图中不会展示或包含任何专属数据。尽管该栅格地图于2007年编制完成，但所用《PI/Dwights PLUS 井数据》的最新数据截止至2004年。
