POLLEN ANALYSIS OF STRATIGRAPHIC DEPOSITS AT THE MILL IRON SITE, SOUTHEASTERN MONTANA

The Mill Iron Site is located near the top of a south and west sloping
remnant in a grassland-badland terrain. The vegetation on top of the
remnant is presently dominated by sedges (Cyperaceae) and grasses
(Gramineae), although sagebrush is also noted. The west slope of the
remnant supports more shrubby plants, including rabbitbrush (Chrysothamnus-a
High-spine Compositae), greasewood (Sarcobatus), and sagebrush
(Artemisia). TIle south side of the cuesta is dominated by saltbrush
(Atriplex--a Cheno-am), although it also supports grasses (Gramineae),
greasewood (Sarcobatus), rabbitbrush (Chrysothamnus--a High-spine
Compositae), and sagebrush (Artemisia).
