Success rate of transcranial Doppler scanning of cerebral arteries at different transtemporal windows in healthy elderly individuals

This study measured the success rates of applying transcranial Doppler (TCD) scanning at Middle, Posterior, and Anterior temporal windows (MTW, PTW & ATW) in the elderly subjects. A hand-held 1.6-MHz pulsed-wave TCD transducer was used to search for flow signals from cerebral arteries at MTW, PTW, and ATW locations. Physical attributes of the head, including head circumference and the distance between tragus (‘tragus-to-tragus arc length’), were also measured for exploring the associations with successful rate.
