Anthropogenic modification of observed discharge: Summary of HydCHeck factsheets for Swiss gauging stations

This Excel-file contains summary information extracted from the factsheets published by the Swiss Federal Office for the Environment about the anthropogenic influence on discharge observed at Swiss federal gauging stations. The selection of factsheets (downloaded on 24 June 2025) contains 162 gauging stations. Version 1 (V1) contains a summary of the degree of influence of the streamflow regime and the storage volume of storage reservoirs in the catchments. Note on "irrigation" numbers that can be found in the factsheets (not in this summary): The amount of water used for irrigation is based on the average demand for irrigation in Switzerland. This method yields an interesting but rough estimate: it uses the same number for all areas classified as agricultural land. The following limitations apply at the regional/catchment scale: not all crops are actually irrigated due to economic viability issues; not all areas are easily accessible for existing/potential irrigation infrastructure (thus, irrigation is not possible); irrigation bans can significantly impact the amount of water used for irrigation; and irrigation amounts are highly dependent on crop type, thus the portfolio of crops for a sub catchment may substantially influence the amount of water used for irrigation.
