Differential gene expression analysis during spore formation in Chaetoceros socialis

Quiescence is a widespread trait of both multicellular and unicellular organisms. Among diatoms, unicellular eukaryotes at the base of all aquatic food webs, several species produce dormant cells (spores or resting cells) that can withstand long periods of adverse environmental conditions in the sediments and resume cell division once the conditions improve. We present the first account of RNAseq raw data during the formation of spores, induced by nitrogen depletion, in the marine planktonic diatom Chaetoceros socialis.
