Biodegradation mechanisms of n-alkanes

The study explored the biodegradation processes of n-alkanes, which serve as model compounds for polyethylene (PE), using a multi-omics analysis. Specifically, this study aimed to assess the biodegradation of n-alkanes by examining their biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) in the soil environment. To achieve this, 16S rRNA amplicon sequencing, metagenomic analysis, and metatranscriptomic analysis were employed to elucidate the microbial flora involved in the biodegradation process.
