In india, rice is the staple food and contains very little amount of iron and zinc in consumable part. Transgenic high iron rice is a major breakthrough for crop improvement programme. The milled grains of transgenic high iron rice (soyfer1 overexpressing) showed significant increment of iron and zinc content. This finding is very promising to reduce the dietary iron deficiency in developing countries like India. However, molecular signalling mechanism behind this elevated iron level is still obscure. The present study highlights the role of miRNAs in regulating the transporter for high iron transport in transgenic rice. This study is very important to demonstrate the role of signalling molecules like miRNAs in transgenic rice.
