Cross-media environmental control in selected areas Reutte/Breitenwang

In this report, for the first time, the Federal Environment Agency has collected and presented the environmental situation of a carbide and refractory metal plant across media. The focus was on emissions of dust to air and heavy metals in all environmental media. The metals tungsten and molybdenum are obtained at the Reutte/Breitenwang site. Together with other metals such as tantalum, niobium and chromium, raw material shapes and special tools are produced. Air quality measurements of dust do not show any tendency to stress. There are numerous studies on molybdenum in various environmental media, and first results are available for tungsten. The Federal Environment Agency carried out a monitoring of the deposition of heavy metals with moss in 1996, 2001 and 2007. The concentrations measured here show strongly elevated values.
