Replica Composite Harpoon (Catalog # 2002:226.241), a part of the Michigan State University Museum's Archaeology Teaching Collection. This tool, created by Carl Doney, is a replica of a harpoon used by Arctic hunters. It is composed of a maple wood shaft and deer antler tine point attached using deer sinew. The harpoon tip, made from bone and antler, is detachable and held to the harpoon shaft by a thin rope (not shown). Similar harpoons were used for salmon fishing.
